A moment if you please, about the art in the estate. The artist is Frederick Phillips. see his bio below. About Frederick Phillips   Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1953, Frederick Phillips has been a practicing artist since graduating from Burslem College of Art in 1974. He began exhibiting his early oil paintings in galleries in Birmingham before moving to London in 1985. Soon after, Phillips met the writer and art critic Bill Hopkins who became the artist's agent for five years and who introduced Phillips to David Sylvester, a friend of artist Francis Bacon and a world authority on the paintings of the Belgian Surrealist, Rene Magritte. Sylvester was later to write to Phillips, saying, "...you are a certain kind of Romantic painter, very much in the tradition of Caspar David Friederich". In addition to private sales to collectors in Kensington and Holland Park, exhibitions of the artist's work were held at galleries throughout London. At the London International Contemporary Art Fair in 1985, his paintings attracted the attention of gallery owners from Chicago who purchased twenty of Phillips' unsold works and began to represent the artist in the United States. Phillips was granted a visa as an 'Artist of Exceptional Merit' and in 1990 he relocated to the USA where he lived and worked for the next seventeen years. In 1996 he was invited to lecture on 'Dream and Reality in Art' at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and in 2000, a book on his life and work, "Quintessence: The Art of Frederick Phillips" was published in America.  In 2007 Phillips returned to England where he continues to paint, holding exhibitions of his new work as well as dealing with his many collectors both here and abroad. In addition, Phillips became a part-time Tutor in Life Drawing at Staffordshire University and in 2012 he was invited to participate in the judging of the UNESCO-sponsored International Children's Exhibition of Fine Art in Lidice, Czech Republic, where he joined an international panel of judges to adjudicate 26,000 artworks.  Exhibitions of the art of Frederick Phillips have been held in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Indianapolis, Michigan, London, Puerto Rico and Hong Kong.
