ART HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Portrait painting of Benjamin Rush Hall, oil on canvas, second quarter 19th c., artist unknown
    Prov. Benjamin Rush Hall was born in 1820 to Dr. Richard Wilmot Hall, a surgeon in the War of 1812 and founder of the University of Maryland. Hall’s grandfather, Dr. Jacob Hall (b. 1747) was first cousin to Benjamin Rush, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Benjamin Rush Hall moved to South Louisiana from Maryland pre-Civil War and owned Eureka Plantation in Iberville Parish. The portrait has descended through the family since the 1840’s.


  • After Marie Adrien Persac (American/Louisiana) “Plantations on the Mississippi River from Natchez to New Orleans” 1931 – two available, one framed and the other rolled
  • Joseph Pennell (American/New Orleans, 1857-1926) French Quarter cottage engraving, dated 1882, in period frame
  • R. C. Gorman (American, 1932-2005) (3) lithographs, signed, numbered and dated; also a coffee table book and portfolio of Gorman’s work
