-- Additional Info about Judge Elbert H. Gary Grandfather clock (unverified authenticity)--we're giving you what we've gathered so far about this unique clock. All documents & paper trails will be available for your review during inspection time period on auction day (or earlier by request). These papers will be turned over to the winning bidder & new owner of this Herschede tall case clock. Cherry wood 8 1/2 ft. tall Herschede, full length beveled glass, moon dial face with Zodiac signs. Takes one month for moon dial to complete its circle, 2 key holes, 30# weight runs time, #55 weight operates strike & Westminster chimes, refinished cabinet, replaced chime strings& replaced door cloth (original cloth piece samples in envelope). Judge Elbert H. Gary, born in Wheaton, Il. 1846-d 1927, financier & on board of directors U.S. Steel Corp./Carnegie Steel. Reportedly purchased this clock 1913-1914. Orel "Rabbit" Melton has an entire folder of papers about this clock. In 1970 he purchased it directly from a known clock officiando. Both that clock dealer & Orel Melton for decades claimed it is Judge Gary's clock. I personally saw this clock in Mr. Melton's home in 1980's as he was deservedly proud of it. There's 8/27/1979 letter from Herschede Clock company in Starkville, Miss. matching its serial #1415 to its factory shipment on Nov. 22, 1913. There are reported pictures of this clock in Judge Gary's office-yet to be found. Any & all with active interest in this clock should call me TODAY, I'll talk to you about what I know (please don't wait until day before or day of auction, super busy for any good auctioneer& its likely I won't get to talk with you at any length).
