When Pigs Fly~Estate Sale

Baum Estate

Whitesboro, TX

August 14-16

9:00am-3:00pm

Our clients are two sweet sisters. They love their family immensely and shared with us, how amazing their upbringing was and the wonderful parents they had.

The home we will be hosting this unique sale in, is original to the family and will remain so.

I asked the family if they would like us to advertise the family name and they said "Yes"! They are much loved in the area and you will enjoy finding some memories and treasures to share with your families.

I've included a lovely and thoughtful bit of history, provided by the family. Note: The home is not vacant, please do not come to the house until the morning of the sale. For your safety, please do not be looking in the yard or windows.

We will place a sign-up sheet at the front door for you to sign-in. Our sign-up sheets allow you to reserve a place in line and come back later. We ask that you be back by 8:45 am and begin forming a line in order.

We will limit the number of people in at any one time to 20 and additional limits per room or area.

207 Water Street, Whitesboro, Texas

The present house on 207 Water Street was owned by Charles and Waunema Baum for 66 years.  They were the only owners of the house.  It provided a home to their family of two daughters, Kay and Susan.

Charlie was born July 19, 1917 in Whitesboro, while Waunema was born on February 22, 1924 as Waunema Ruth Kirby in Pig Eye, a community near Dexter (Cooke County, Texas).

After serving the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, mostly as a POW under the Japanese, he returned to Whitesboro and married Waunema on June 22, 1946.

For his bride and future family he decided to build their home on the home site of Captain Ambrose White, the founder of Whitesboro.  Captain White was Charlie’s great grandfather.  The site served as a garden during Charlie’s young years when his parents needed fresh vegetables for Charlie and his two older brothers, G.C. and Al.

With a few helpers, Charlie built a two-bedroom home with an attached garage.  Because of his service he was eligible to use lumber from Camp Howze, an infantry training camp north of Gainesville during World War II, which was being closed after the war.

Their daughters arrived in 1949 and 1954 and they needed some room.  The garage was closed in and made into informal eating area and a den and bathroom was added to the east side of the house, all built by Charlie with a few helpers.  He added a car port to the back of the house with several store rooms to safe guard all of his treasures.

As the family became bigger with grandchildren (5) and great grandchildren (7), their home was the gathering place at Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, or any weekend to eat , enjoy each other, play cards, or mow the lawn.  A fish fry for the family and friends of the family was held on many occasions in their beautiful backyard to celebrate a birthday, holiday, or just life.

Their home was a place where people and family were always greeted by Charlie and Waunema as friends and welcome visitors.  Charlie passed on May 5, 2013 and Waunema on February 8, 2014.  Christmas gift opening and dinner was held there even to last year.
