This sale has many great items representing the travels and work of Joe and Sylvia Higginbotham. They were residents of Columbus for many years. They met and married while Joe was serving in the military. After he returned from Vietnam they lived in various places in the South before finally deciding to settle down in Columbus, Ms. They had two daughters and shared 52 years of marriage together. Sylvia was an accomplished travel writer and well known as the author of the book, "Reflections", a detailed history of antebellum homes in Columbus. She was the past director of the Columbus Historical Foundation and Arts Council. Sylvia traveled often while conducting research for articles and was also an avid photographer into nature and architecture. After retiring from full-time work, Joe spent much of his time playing golf. He served as president of the Columbus Country Club. Together, he and Sylvia, owned and operated their own publishing company printing and distributing many books Sylvia wrote about the South. In his later years he also worked at Tousley Motors and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
