This is a remarkable sale of the historic Merritt Island Pottery Estate contents- We will provide details and updates as we begin setting up for this sale - This will be a one of a kind sale of high end art, pottery, antiques, collectibles and so many more incredible items. 

WE do have a few pieces of Mel's Pottery available prior to the sale - please see consignment page for images.

Melvin Casper and his mother, Peggy Jamieson, founded the Merritt Island Pottery in 1937, after moving there from Chicago. They built the pottery out of planks milled from pine trees cut on the property. In 1937 there was no electricity on the island and so the first pottery was unglazed. Melvin spent a few years in China with General Stillwell during World War II but returned to continue making pottery on Merritt Island. He remains there until he passed, teaching and making pottery, at 84 a master potter, hardened by the fire of World War II and glazed by the beauty of Merritt Island. He came to Merritt Island in the mid-1930s with his stepmother, Esther Peg Jamison, who also was an artist. The two traveled to Florida just after he graduated from the Chicago Art Institute, where he had studied drawing, painting and pottery. They came to the isolated barrier island in Brevard County to live with his uncle, an ornithologist. 
 

Studio:

The remaining pottery items, store items, signs and fixtures in the pottery studio will be made available for this sale - the studio has been sitting for over a decade undisturbed but time has taken its toll. This area will have uneven surfaces and a lot of dust. It has been sitting paused in time for years - be ready for dust and no ac in this area. 

This area will be limited numbers to access at a time - to enter Pottery Studio you must wear closed toe shoes and be aware that it is enter at your own risk - we will have staffing in the studio to ensure those entering are in appropriate areas of building. It is extremely dusty and this building  does not have power - 

You will find the old store, register, pottery, pottery tools, molds, books, tables, stools, doors, jars, and so many unique items throughout - all is for sale.

Florida Cracker style House:

All furniture, appliances interior doors and fixtures will be sold. The house is PACKED with pottery, art, massive collection of antique china , vintage clothing, tons of Merritt Island Pottery Studio photographs, slides and historical papers. This will be the final opportunity to visit the site and purchase items from the location. This is a remarkable sale but the site is older - we may need to limit access do to size of rooms.
