Listing Information
This house was furnished in the 1960s, and the family just took care of what they had, so all the furniture is now vintage and unusual. The most interesting things seem to have come from a manufacturer called Paoletti Period Furniture, based locally in Orange, NJ, but they have the look of older European styles about them. Starting in the kitchen, you have a kitchenette for four, and the cabinets hide such treasures as vintage Pyrex and Corningware cookware. The dining room features a beautiful china cabinet, a broad sideboard surmounted by a large mirror, and an unusual bar cabinet. The china set for 12 is the Noritake "Norwood" pattern, very pretty with a delicate blue floral theme. In the living room, you will find a sofa and two chairs like none I have ever seen before, and a pair of gorgeous stone-topped tables, all by Paoletti. The lamp is a real conversation piece, a beautiful sculpture of two human figures -- it seems to be a scene from Greek mythology, but I can't tell you which story it is. A side room features a sofa bed and a small flat-screen TV with stand, as well as a Bose radio. There is also one of several unusual brass tables to be found in various spots throughout the house. Throughout the house, you will find beautiful hand-made Greek vases of various sizes, replicas of real antiquities. There are also a number of small decorative items here and there, such as the pretty crystal lights on the mantelpiece. Upstairs, Paoletti has furnished the master bedroom with attractive carved head and foot boards for the full-size bed, wide bow-front 12-drawer dresser and mirror, a matching seven-drawer chest, nightstands, lamps with unusual amber-colored pendants. The child's room features a twin bed with head and footboard that could fit into any design scheme, a dresser with mirror, a desk with bookshelves, and the most special item, a Lane cedar chest with an interior tray. In another room, we have found a real treasure: a set of Lionel Super "O" train cars, transformer, pieces of track, and even the track layout guide that came with the set -- all in their original boxes in excellent condition. It includes: #736W Tender with Whistle; #6469 Liquefied Gas Tank Car; #6464-900 Box Car; #6447 Cupola Caboose; #6416 Boat Transport Car with the original blue-and-white boats it came with, all present; #6446 Cement Car; #637-13 Locomotive; Trainmaster Type LW Transformer; a box of loose track sections; and a booklet on track layout planning. There are some more items of furniture, tools etc. in the basement, but the most unusual piece is the industrial Singer sewing machine, #241-11, which features a huge worktable. The gentleman of the house was a tailor, so not only did he have this great sewing machine setup, but the house also contains a number of new-old-stock suits that are his beautiful handiwork. The real digging can be done in the garage, which is just chock-full of stuff, too various to list. Of course there are tools, but there's so much more to be found in this garage. In this house, when I use the word "vintage," I mean very desirable survivors of a bygone era. You won't find quality furnishings like this, these distinctive styles, in just any modern store. You must come and see.
