The Virginia Auctioneers Association is excited to announce its State Champion Auctioneering contest is moving back to the State Fair of Virginia. The Board of Directors voted to make the move because it believes the new venue will give greater notoriety to the Virginia Auctioneers Association and the auction profession.
“We are happy to be adding another event to the State Fair’s growing list of exciting statewide competitions,” adds Yoder. The championship will be Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the State Fair of Virginia, Meadow Event Park, Doswell, VA (Caroline County, VA exit 98 off I-95). In the early years of the contest, the VAA had regularly hosted its contest at the state fair
The event grades auctioneers on chant, rhythm, presence and auction ability. For decades this event has brought bid-calling auctioneers from every corner of Virginia to compete for the coveted title of top auctioneer. Members of the public are invited to attend and bid on the items for sale. Last year, Josh Puffenbarger of Mt. Solon, VA claimed the championship.
“When you participate in the contest, you connect with a new group of friends,” says Puffenbarger. “Even though they are competitors, they become valued colleagues that can escalate your auction career.” The event will feature items and competitors from each corner of Virginia. For people who cannot attend the contest, the VAA intends to stream the event live over the internet. Members of the general public are welcomed to attend and bid on the items for sale at auction. The event was previously hosted by Daniel Auction Service, Gasburg, VA and Dixon’s Auctions in Powhatan, VA. Both groups did a fantastic job with the contest. In moving to the State Fair, the VAA hopes to capitalize on greater statewide exposure.
“This will certainly help the VAA reach some milestones that are otherwise unattainable,” Yoder predicts.
