Listing Information

The Marianites of the Holy Cross have given their lives in service to our community.  Beautiful Holy Angels Academy in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans where they taught for many years is closed and now is a thing of the past, and the historic property has now been sold. The Sisters have relocated to Covington.

  Silent Partners Estate Sales is honored that the Marianite Sisters of the Holy Cross have chosen us to liquidate the remaining contents of their school and convent. Former students, this is a great opportunity to purchase a piece of your past and a lovely remembrance of your days at the school.

 Note: Proceeds from this one-day, rain or shine sale are going to the retirement fund for the Marianite Sisters.   All of the items in the sale are either original to the convent/school or were used by the Sisters.  The sale will be held in the beautiful former chapel of the school - this sale may be your last chance to view the property. Hint: the stained glass windows are FANTASTIC.

Sterling/gold is being kept at a secure location off-site for safekeeping until the sale.


A few highlights:

Lovely large set of sterling silver flatware in the Chapel Bells pattern in flatware chest - service for over 20. Place settings were brought to the convent by entrants - a few pieces still have the individual Sister's number in religion engraved on them.

 ANOTHER set of sterling flatware!  Service for 6 in the (International) Serenity pattern.  These are monogrammed with a "P."

About 40 .999 Silver doubloons - each 1 Troy ounce

2006 American Eagle $5 gold coin (1/10 ounce gold bullion) in original case with paperwork

Wonderful framed signed original by listed artist Pino La Vardera (1980's)

Pair of Altar candlesticks

Several vintage trunks and some foot lockers

Beautiful room sized rug - very clean

Antique cast iron fireplace covers - came from France in 1865

Set of fine china used by the Sisters (Finesse pattern - 1950's) - also several partial sets

Many pieces of polished silverplate - serving pieces and flatware sets

Small vintage and antique tables and chairs of all types - use "as is" or chalk paint - this sale is a chalk painter and re-purposers delight!

Two sofas, coffee tables, hall trees, entertainment center, small bookcases - names like Broyhill, Ethan Allen, Drexel

Prayer books, breviaries, and Lectionaries used by the Sisters, an antique bible written in Italian - some other books as well

Five 12 foot long church pews - all original to Our Lady of Sorrows chapel at the school/convent

2 Original - and very rare -  "crimping/fluting" machines used in the convent laundry to style and shape the Pre-Vatican II nun's veils - a treasure - early 20th century
