Information regarding some of the religious literature:

Albion (1861-1921) and Edward (1864-1955) Ballenger were leading critics of the Seventh-day

Adventist Church beginning in the early days of the 20 century and carrying forward to the death of th

Edward. In Edward’s latter years, Donald Mote began helping him in his work. After Edward’s death,

Mote continued the work until the early 1990s. The trio were primarily against the sanctuary view

commonly held by most Seventh-day Adventists. They also opposed the authority and position of Ellen

G. White. Besides tracts and small publications their main voice was The Gathering Call magazine.

This collection is all that Donald Mote had in his home/office in 1996. The Adventist Heritage

Center curator went to his Riverside, California, home and cleaned out anything related to Ballenger.

What is in this collection is the contents of about four file cabinets plus gleanings from an extremely

dirty attic and garage. Also taken was the library begun by A. F. Ballenger and maintained and

augmented by E. S. Ballenger and Donald Mote.

One or more sets of photocopies of portions of these files may exist. Loma Linda University

Heritage Room has one set and Andrews University had another set until we obtained the originals.

These photocopied sets may not be complete. Mote photocopied only portions of the files.

Through the papers in this collection one can gain a deep insight into the message of the

Ballenger brothers and Mote.

There was a lot of this left untouched in the attic.
