Dealers please bring your packing supplies. A bit about the family: Manufacturer of Furniture in Italy"Own a piece of family furniture history. Robert (Buddy) and Valerie Hart founded Imports for the Trade in the early 1960s out of their love for fine traditional furniture. Buddy's father, Lester, an auctioneer in Brooklyn and Miami Beach, lived among and managed the estate sales of some of the famous and the infamous of his day. With an eye for inlay, marquetry, and other handmade detail, as well as an appreciation for style and value, Buddy and his father embarked on a trip to Italy to the furniture fairs in Milan and a road trip to fine woodworkers in Tuscany. They began importing crates of unfinished pieces into the Port of Miami, which were custom finished and upholstered on site in factories built in the Design District of Miami. Imports for the Trade was only open to decorators and their clients who included local celebrities, as well as fine hotels and foreign palaces and embassies looking for unique reproductions of traditional craftsmanship. Imports for the Trade was a favorite place for members of the trade to drop into; especially for lunch. Valerie spent years making hundreds of pans of lasagna and other favorites for employees, as well as for decorators and their clients; served in the showroom's bricked lunchroom. Buddy and his business partner in Italy, Giancarlo Danti, who managed the company's office in Florence, Italy, grew the business together for nearly 30 years, until Buddy and Valerie turned their sites to becoming "gentleman farmers" in Mount Dora in 1990.
