3 Handmade Hmong -Hill Tribe Quilt from the Ban Vinai refugee Camp in Thailand. This Brown, black and white hand crafted textile appears to feature diamonds, snail, cucumber seeds and mountain design motifs in reverse applique. approx. D: 112" x 90" The quilts and other Hmong Hill Tribe textiles in this auction were given as gifts from the makers themselves to our seller who worked in the Refugee camp referenced below during and after the Vietnam War. Ban Vinai Refugee Camp, officially the Ban Vinai Holding Center, was a refugee camp in Thailand from 1975 until 1992. Ban Vinai primarily housed highland people, especially Hmong, who fled communist rule in Laos. D:2-1/16" X 1-3/5" 13 Turned Oak Coat Tree on Hoof Feet Approx 68"H 14 Stickley & Brandt Griffin Carved Victorian Oak Side Chair Winged Griffin and floral foliage, shell crest, egg and C scrolls. Cabriole style front legs, turned back legs with turned stretchers and ending on carved paw foot. Partial original label on verso. Charles Stickley and his cousin Schuyler Brandt formed the Stickley & Brandt Chair Company in 1891. They quickly became the largest furniture dealer in New York State, selling a wide variety of furniture including ornately carved fancy rockers that were popular at the time. For short periods, John George and Leopold Stickley worked for the company. In 1909, Stickley & Brandt began making Arts and Crafts pieces like those made by Charles' brothers. Stickley & Brandt went out of business in 1918. Our research shows that the chair may have originally sold as a set with a settee and catalog as model numbers 589 and 588.
