Place of Origin – England Circa Period - 4th Quarter of 18th Century Bradbury Bennett (1914-1991, American Oil Painting On Canvas Signed ) - Bennett Bradbury was an American genre painter. Focusing almost exclusively on depicting bodies of water in varying tumultuous states, his realistic paintings of coastal scenes in Hawaii and California earned him national acclaim. Bradbury’s works are perhaps most reminiscent of the American Winslow Homer Master paintings of churning waves breaking upon the coast, with white frothy peaks and cerulean blue eddies smoothly rendered in oil paint. Born on February 23, 1914 in Wrentham, MA, he was notably the brother of the acclaimed Farenheit 451 author Ray Bradbury. The painter initially worked for Walt Disney studios as a colorist before moving to Laguna Beach to focus on his own Artistic career and developing the body of work for which he is best known for his seascapes. Bradbury died on January 11, 1991 in Carmel, CA. Lars Laurits Haaland (1855-1938 Norwegian) Nautical Oil Painting On Canvas "The Breakers" In original frame no damage. Jan William van Borselen, (1825-1892, Dutch) Oil on Canvas 15" x 14" Canvas Only His father Pieter van Borselen was the Director of the Walloon Orphanage but was also known as a landscape painter and lithographer and gave jan his first lessons. At the age of thirteen, he presented his first landscape at one of his father's exhibitions in Groningen and would continue to exhibit frequently throughout his life.
In 1855 he moved to The Hague, seeking a more affluent clientele, and joined the Pulchri Studio. During his time at the Studio, he held several positions, such as Librarian, Secretary and Treasurer. While there, he would take up apprenticeship with Andreas Schelfhout, which would eventually lead to contacts with the Royal Family. He was often invited to stay at Het Loo and paint in the surrounding forests.
From 1857, his primary subjects would be what he referred to as "Wicker, wolken en fladderende riet" (Meadows, clouds and fluttering reeds). Together with his friends, he painted near Gouda and Schoonhaven, making small paintings of 12" x 18" centimeters (roughly 4" x 7") that would be converted to larger works at the studio.
In the 1870s he became an advocate of watercolors and, in 1872, joined the "Societe royale belge des aquarellistes", participating in their exhibitions and winning medals at the Weltausstellung 1873 in Vienna and the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia.
Because of his work with the Royal Family, King William 111 made him a Ridder in the Order of the Oak Crown in 1869 and was promoted to Officer in 1881.

A lunch aboard a World War I naval cruiser inspired Robert to build, with accuracy over a 40 year span, World War II ships, harbors and towns to fit into his basement. Robert built accurate replicas of World War II battles in his basement. His interest in ship building began during his childhood in Germantown, PA. While there, Robert was invited to lunch aboard a World War I cruiser by his second cousin, U.S. Navy Captain Clarence Gullbransen, who was the commandant of the Philadelphia Naval Yard at the time. At the start of World War II, time the family moved to Grosse Pointe where Robert's father worked for Chrysler Building Tanks & Trucks for the US Military. He attended the Grosse Pointe High School, rowing at the high school crew at the Detroit Boat Club. Robert conducted war games every weekend in his basement until he was called to duty to the US Navy & the V-5 Naval Air Corp. program. After Robert returned home to Grosse Pointe after the War he changed his old wood kits into plastic models and modified them to scale on 1 inch equaling 50 feet. Robert removed two support columns in this basement & installed a 12 foot steel beam to accommodate his new models and "new" war games." It took Robert approximately 40 years to build more than 400 ships, 15 submarines, 500 tanks and 500 planes in this estate sales basement and his models includes American, British, German, Italian, and Japanese ships limited to the World War II era.
