MULTI CONSIGNOR ONLINE AUCTION MOVED TO LGRA

Our late July auction features many collections, consignments and estates moved offsite to the Lewis Ginter Library located in Ginter Park. Featuring items from Rutland, country estate of the Timberlake family, ca. 1790. June 1862, as Union troops pushed toward Richmond and Rutland’s 1200 acres. Union troops rounded up Timberlake and about 100 other Virginia farmers and sent them to a prison in Hampton Roads. Already in poor health, Timberlake died 3 weeks later in February 1863 and was buried on the family cemetery at Rutland in an iron coffin which is now part of the Smithsonian Institute. During the war, JEB Stuart used Rutland as his headquarters in July of 1862.
Rutland has now been developed and is in north Hanover County near Atlee. The original house still stands and is now the pool house for the Rutland development.

Highlights to mention:

  1. Important local 18th century tavern table, ca. 1760 pine and yellow pine, early surface and nearly untouched condition. Probably Hanover County, VA. From Rutland Plantation, Hanover County, VA
  2. 1940's sterling julep cups from Millwood, Upperville Hunt shows
