This auction will include Advertising signs, clocks, thermometers, country store, general store, gas station, gas & oil, gas pumps, soda pop machines & coolers, neons, civil war, military, vintage toys, railroad collectibles, special furniture pieces, & Hundreds of unique item! Featured in this auction will be a Beautiful Gentleman's Dresser. This dresser is from the Historic Maxwell House Hotel room 45. President Roosevelt's comment that a cup of coffee he drank was "good to the last drop" was used as the advertising slogan for Maxwell House coffee, which was served at & named after the hotel. The Maxwell House Hotel began construction in 1859 and opened in 1869 and was the largest hotel in Nashville with many Famous guests including 7 Presidents; Andrew Johnson, Rutherford B. Hayes, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, & Woodrow Wilson. Other famous guest included; Jane Addams, 1800's actress Sarah Bernhardt, William Jennings Bryan, Enrico Caruso, "Buffalo Bill" Cody, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Annie Oakley, William Sydney Porter, (O Henry), General Tom Thumb, Cornelius Vanderbilt, & George Westinghouse. The Hotel was destroyed by fire on Christmas night 1961. Prior to the hotel's official opening it served as a Civil War barracks, prison, & hospital. The first national meeting of the Ku Klux Klan took place at the hotel in 1867. This is an amazing opportunity to own a true piece of history and a wonderful piece of quality furniture.
