ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jerry Capa, a 1943 Alexander Medal winner. When Jerry graduated in 1943 it was during World War II. He never received a medal, only a paper certificate, because metal was being conserved for the war effort. Jerry is a graduate of Straubenmuller Textile High School in Manhattan which was named after the vocational education pioneer Gustave Straubenmuller. The school was later renamed Charles Evans Hughes High School.

In 2016, Jerry attended the School Art League's 107th awards ceremony and was recognized from the podium and honored with a new Alexander Medal to replace the certificate he was given in 1943. Jerry is very proud of having received this honor when he was a young student artist. You can see him below holding his Alexander medal which is framed along with other awards he has received.

Jerry spent his life and career in the visual arts and shares stories from his past in his handwritten account of his life, Memories with Few Regrets, as well as some examples of his art work (below). We are happy to celebrate Jerry Capa on our alumni page (information taken from the Alumni page from The School Art League). Jerry was also an artist for the known magazine The New Yorker!
