THE ESTATE OF A NEWPORT GENTLEMAN

A NEWPORT BEACH ESTATE LIKE NO OTHER

IN ONE OF NEWPORT BEACH'S MOST EXCLUSIVE GATED ENCLAVES

When did you last see an original Edgar Payne or Edouard Cortès painting, except for at a museum? This is no museum, this is an estate, a collection made over a lifetime of important art and objects presented here for the very first time to the public. We are honored to have been chosen to represent this family and trust. We hope you enjoy the photos and would love to hear from you should you be interested in purchasing this estate in its entirety.

Elegant, refined, tasteful...

These are just a few adjectives describing our estate sale in one of Newport Beach's most exclusive gated communities. As with all of our sales, it is by appointment only. Our client's wish is to have one special client purchase everything...So, we will do everything in our power to source this private buyer. This has been a very successful model for us in the past, and so we are hoping the taste and refinement of this estate appeals to someone who is willing to write a significant check. If you love everything in this home as much as we do, do please get in touch and let us know your thoughts.

Our client travelled to Europe extensively, particular to France where he selected paintings, art, engravings, bronzes, artglass and silver. This collection is a result when money was no object and exceptional taste informs the palate.

A few highlights....

The collection of art in this estate is breathtaking....Many important listed artists, the most notable being Edgar Payne 1883-1947. Payne painted with a distinct, impressionist style. He often painted "plein air." He probably owes part of his distinct style to his decision to go the self-taught route rather than the rigid, academic route. We present a bold, colorful depiction of sailboats in a harbor, one of Payne's popular subject matters in his signature style of solid color shapes...

Another artist of note represented in this estate is Edouard Cortès (1882-1969.) A French painter and post-impressionist artist of French-Spanish ancestry,  Cortès is known as "Le Poète Parisien de la Peinture" or "the Parisian Poet." He often painted Paris scenes but on rare occasions painted exquisite landscapes, much like "Le Port" we present here.

We have many other French Impressionist and post Impressionist artists represented, oil on canvas, water colors, gouaches and an impressive collection of 18th and 19th C hand colored engravings.

In addition to art, each room is beautifully decorated with only the finest furniture and accessories. Karges, Baker, Kindel are just some of the furniture makers represented here. We also have a collection of Baccarat stemware, compotes and figurines, French and English china including Royal Worcester, leather bound books, Asian porcelain including vases and chargers, lamps and lighting, pewter and silver...

Primarily because of the important art, this is one of the most prestigious estates we have ever handled.
