DAD'S WORKSHOP THURSDAY OCTOBER 11TH 9-6

Giant clearing out of the old workshop now gathering dust.
10446 Spiva Road, sac, Ca 95829

You probably remember Jim Lassiter who passed last year. His lovely little wife (now widow) Rene, has asked us, along with her mother Carolyn, to come on out to the country and help them empty the workshop and garage of Rene’s Dad and Carolyn’s late husband Robert DeHonestis.

Along with his collection of very lonely tools, Rene has added some of Jim’s old stuff, things from both homes and just items in general the girls no longer have a use for. The idea is that maybe they can generate enough income to fix up the place and sell it so that mom can move into something near Rene’s home– that is easier to manage than this acreage with a giant shop and land she now cares for.

We have opted to show it “like it is” and save the family the money by not wasting labor on dusting old tools, organizing screws and bolts and instead having you gentlemen and ladies simply dig on in and come out with your boxes loaded and get priced out on the driveway where we can make sense of his collection….if there is a lot left on Friday, the girls will carry on the sale by themselves and hope many of you will stop by again to take advantage of even better prices…maybe Saturday as well but they won’t know till the end of Thursday’s sale. The following was written by his daughters and is about the late owner…

Born in 1935 in Mt. Vernon, NY, Robert DeHonestis’ knack for tinkering with things started from almost day one. As he grew, so did his knowledge for being hands on. He married in 1959 and built a house with his new bride, Carolyn, in Pennsylvania. He loved to live in the country, where he could be surrounded by nature and enjoyed watching the wildlife. Fishing and working on cars were his favorite pastimes. In 1972, he moved his family to California, where he and his wife settled to raise their children in the city.

City life was a big change for this country boy, and technology set in as he grew older. In the 90′s, his youngest daughter helped him to tinker with something new…the “world wide internet”.

One rainy day, as he was “Googling” how to put our old computer back together after he decided it needed to be taken apart, he learned of a so called Heaven on Earth. This Heaven was called “eBay”. His desire to re-invent the old into something new blossomed when he realized he was now able to locate all kinds of hard to find items.

This eventually led to an eBay obsession, and packages arrived nearly every day for him. He was able to collect all those items he remembered as a child, from model planes and trains to cameras and books. He also collected all things fishing from making his own poles to building his own boat and automotive parts, magazines and tools.

In 2000, Robert and Carolyn purchased a 10 acre property after he retired as a mechanical engineer. He was a country boy at heart and not only did he love that this home wasn’t in the city, it had a large barn/workshop that would soon become his new playground. He was back in a peaceful surrounding with nature, and would get so excited when he would see the bunnies or pheasants in his yard, and even the raccoons who ended up making a family under their house. He also owned three cats that he loved.

Robert was a very hard working man always working with his hands making all kinds of things, fishing rods, guns, tractors and just digging in the dirt! He used to call them his “20 minute projects”, only because he would always say it will only take 20 minutes but then he would get distracted and start another one. He collected all kinds of things over the years as you will see as you go through his workshop, most likely you will find one or more of the same thing as he would sometimes forget that he already had that item or the family would buy it for him for his Birthday or Christmas.

Robert’s passion for Salt Water fishing took him many places around Northern California such as Morro Bay, Humbolt Bay, Half Moon Bay. He loved to fish, even taking his youngest daughter even though she would get so sick but she was a trooper and still stuck by his side as he showed her the ropes. One of his last few trip’s was with his son- in-law Jim, they went to Half Moon bay. We heard the story of how Jim caught more than dad this time! And then the story of how they went to lunch after and how dad just had to have his Cheese pizza he liked even though they had already eaten. He was full of stories and loved to joke around with people.

We invite you to come take a walk through this proud father/grandfather’s workshop and maybe share a memory or two with the family if you so choose.

We are very pleased to have “Jennie and The Crew from Estate Sales Help” handle this “20 minute project” in honor of our Dad. She is a blessing in disguise, and a real pleasure to work with. We will always think of her for any future endeavors. Thanks Jen & Crew, much love and hugs!!

Lovingly Written by: Robert’s two daughters Renee’ & Jeanette

And so we invite you to Spiva Road this Thursday October 11th from 9am to 6pm to shop like a madman and see what you can’t dig up in this big ol’ barn of a workshop. You may even want to come check out the lay of the land in case you are interested in moving out to the country yourselves. Carolyn is contemplating bringing out lots of stuff from her own house to sell as well…

We want to thank everyone who helped us empty the home in Folsom for Kathy and Bob on behalf of her late brother Jimmy. His truck, car, Harley and also a 5th wheel trailer will all be for sale in about 30 days so feel free to leave a bid via email and Jen will get back to you regarding who the high bidder is and they will be able to purchase their car, truck or trailer.

Thanks once more for your patronage and also the read.
