Active bidding will be auto-extended 3 minutes for each lot once it begins to close. Sculptural works are a major feature of this sale, led by a substantial collection of pieces from the estate of abstract sculptor Raymond Rocklin. Rocklin’s work highlights a diverse experimentation with form and material, encompassing carved wood abstracts, mixed metal structures, and heavy stone compositions. The catalog is equally strong in mid-century and modern graphic arts. Collectors will find a significant group of color lithographs by the renowned printmaker Benton Spruance, showcasing his mastery of the medium. This is complemented by a series of bold, colorful modernist drawings and mixed media collages by Louis Tavelli. International flair arrives via Wolfgang Roth, a multi-talented theater set designer whose paintings and collages heavily feature circus and theatrical imagery. Traditional and regional American painting is also well represented. The auction includes numerous impressionist landscapes by Christopher G. Willett, capturing local Pennsylvania scenery and rural life. Other landscape and maritime painters featured in the sale include George Howell Gay, George H. Flavelle, Paul Crosthwaite, and Adolf Konrad. Fine printmaking and illustrative works are rounded out with etchings by Frederick Harer, a lithograph by Beryl Cook, and historical prints after artists like René Vincent and Howard Chandler Christy. With additional selections ranging from classical European school portraits and folk art to mid-century abstract paintings, the auction provides a comprehensive look at accessible art across the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The variety of mediums—including watercolors, oils, woodblocks, and mixed media—ensures a dynamic viewing and bidding experience. Buyer’s Premium: 23% |
