A home filled with Atlanta History, this estate tells the story of Bill and Gale Probst. They were longtime Dekalb County residents whose lives were deeply woven into the growth, culture and community of Atlanta. Bill, a Georgia Tech graduate, professional engineer and land developer, played an important role in the development of the numerous properties throughout metro Atlanta, including the Smoke Rise community and Chateau Elan. His community involvement extended far beyond development -- he served in leadership roles with the Smoke Rise Golf & Country Club, Dekalb County Rotary and Holy Trinity Church, and also served as past Vice Chairman of the MARTA Board. During the 1970s, Bill owned Barclay Gallery at Phipps Plaza, developing friendships with prominent artists including sculptor and painter Steffen Thomas and sculptor/printmaker Leonard Baskin.

Gale was equally devoted to the community. Her work and volunteer leadership included the Dekalb County Planning Commission, the Junior League of Dekalb, Fernbank, Holy Trinity Church and numerous charitable organizations. She helped preserve the historic Charles Howard Candler home, which became Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and was involved in efforts benefiting generations of Atlantans. Together, Bill and Gale were avid world travelers, art lovers and enthusiastic supporters of Atlanta sports. Their home, Chartwell, was a gathering place filled with family, friends, neighbors and visitors from around the world. Above all, they loved people -- and they filled this home with a lifetime of memories, art, treasures and pieces collected along the way. This sale offers a rare opportunity to step inside that history and discover some of the things that were part of their remarkable lives. You will want to take your time and look everywhere. A home filled with Atlanta History, this estate tells the story of Bill and Gale Probst. They were longtime Dekalb County residents whose lives were deeply woven into the growth, culture and community of Atlanta. Bill, a Georgia Tech graduate, professional engineer and land developer, played an important role in the development of the numerous properties throughout metro Atlanta, including the Smoke Rise community and Chateau Elan. His community involvement extended far beyond development -- he served in leadership roles with the Smoke Rise Golf & Country Club, Dekalb County Rotary and Holy Trinity Church, and also served as past Vice Chairman of the MARTA Board. During the 1970s, Bill owned Barclay Gallery at Phipps Plaza, developing friendships with prominent artists including sculptor and painter Steffen Thomas and sculptor/printmaker Leonard Baskin.

Gale was equally devoted to the community. Her work and volunteer leadership included the Dekalb County Planning Commission, the Junior League of Dekalb, Fernbank, Holy Trinity Church and numerous charitable organizations. She helped preserve the historic Charles Howard Candler home, which became Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and was involved in efforts benefiting generations of Atlantans. Together, Bill and Gale were avid world travelers, art lovers and enthusiastic supporters of Atlanta sports. Their home, Chartwell, was a gathering place filled with family, friends, neighbors and visitors from around the world. Above all, they loved people -- and they filled this home with a lifetime of memories, art, treasures and pieces collected along the way. This sale offers a rare opportunity to step inside that history and discover some of the things that were part of their remarkable lives. You will want to take your time and look everywhere. There are interesting finds around every corner! A Special Note About This Sale: In addition to the wonderful contents of the Probst home, this sale will include additional special pieces from the Probsts' personal art collection, along with a selection of items from a second estate which came from Country Club of the South.
