This OUTSTANDING AUCTION will feature quality items from Mitzi Perdue and others including Sterling silver flatware, Sterling Demitasse cups with Lenox inserts, early paintings from the late 1800's to early 1900's (Collection of Ernest Henderson, by descent) Mitzi's wedding dress when she married Chicken Magnate Frank Perdue, a full size standing snow goose decoy and a wooden scale model workboat by Brice Tyler, antique clocks, French butler's desk, Empire paw foot server, Georgian banded mahogany drop front desk, Queen Anne tables, Upper Bay decoys, pressed steel toys, model trains, a large collection of Franz pottery and much, much more.
Some of the items consigned by Mitzi Perdue are from her late father, Ernest Henderson, co-founder of Sheraton Hotels. Other items were used by her sister, who was married to Ambassador Joseph Petrone, our Ambassador to the United Nations at Geneva.
The proceeds from Mitzi's items will go to support Mental Help Global, a charity pioneering the use of artificial intelligence to provide mental health support to people in conflict areas, including Ukraine.
We also have two incredible pieces created by Brice Tyler of Crisfield, Maryland. Brice was born and raised near Crisfield, MD in the community known as Down Neck at the beginning of The Great Depression. His father was a waterman in occupation for all seasons and hunted ducks for sustenance. There was very little money for anything and none for decoys. When Brice came of age to begin hunting with his father in 1940 he was told that if he wanted any decoys he would have to make them himself. He was mentored by Lloyd Tyler, who lived in the neighborhood. By the time he reached his teens he had made a stool to hunt with. He was never in the business of making stools of decoys on commission for the public. By the late 60s he had lost interest in making decoys and was inspired to create fine art pieces, which he did until the early 90s. By then, his health no longer allowed him to do the physical chopping, spoke shaving, and sanding that goes into carving life-size waterfowl. Still having the motivation and desire to create art, he spent the last years of his life doing pencil drawings of life as he remembered it around the waters and marshes near Crisfield, and making scale-model work boats of the types that were prolific during the time of his youth. Every piece was cut out by hand, ripped first on his table saw and then cut to the correct dimension. Only four of these models exist, stained rather than painted to show the precision of the craftsmanship.
