Again L.A. invites you to a unique sale this weekend. This is not a pretty sale...it is a kooky eclectic sale that may leave you shaking your head and laughing...but you will find some things to buy....and you will smile at what we are calling the "My Big Fat Italian Wedding" sale! This rambling 4 level maze of a home belonged to a spectacular Italian couple who fell in love as young teens in a small Italian Village prior to the onset of WWII....This is the home of Luigi and Ines and it is a fun mix of 70s Boogie Nights meets the Godfather meets Italian Grandma!

Luigi fell in love with Ines as a young man. He was two years younger than her when he met her at her parents restaurant and at the time the young lady towered over the younger man. Their budding interest in one one another came to a halt when Luigi's parents immigrated to the United States. Luigi spent his teen years becoming an American and Ines continued to work in her family's restaurant...and then WWII broke out. Luigi immediately enlisted with the Army with his only request to be assigned to serve in any area outside of Europe and Italy in particular as he did not want to bear arms against his own. He was assigned to the 39th and became a Mortar Specialist. Ines and her family resigned themselves to having to feed the various military regiments that marched through their small town with Ines and the other young women being sent to hide when the telltale sound of the marching regiments were heard approaching. Luigi proved his valor repeatedly and was wounded and put back into service after he was patched up and received many military honors and medals. Throughout the War, Luigi often thought about Ines and after returning states side he told his parents that he wanted to go to Italy to find her as he wanted her to be his wife... His parents urged him to go and find Ines or a good Italian Girl! (Luigi had no idea they had been maintaining contact with Ines' parents and had pretty much arranged the young couples marriage).

When Luigi arrived at the village he promptly went and met with Ines' father to request permission to marry his long ago love. Her father agreed (the elders had already worked this out) and promptly sent for Ines to come home from the restaurant and when she arrived....her father introduced her to her future husband. Luigi stood and the little boy now grown towered over her by a foot. Ines was so shocked at the size of him that she let out a small scream and immediately stepped back. Luigi was devastated and immediately said, "Ines...it is me...Luigi! Don't you remember me?" The shocked bride to be stopped and suddenly realized who stood before her. The young couple was reunited and soon married in a local church and moved to the United States.

Ines and Luigi settled in the eastern US until heading west with their children as the California economy was boomed in the post war era. They settled in the South Pasadena area as their were many Italian-Americans in the area. Luigi's business grew and he found his niche as the painter to the stars. Luigi and Ines' kids met many of these past luminaries as they worked with their father. A favorite memory of the kids is snorkeling and swimming off the Malibu coast with free rein to Lloyd Bridge's home and scuba/snorkeling equipment!

Luigi and Ines' reared their family, were active members of their Catholic Church and the Italian American Community, spent years tinkering with the home on Monterey to make it into their own Italian Villa, and most importantly shared an incredible loving life together for decades until Luigi passed ten years ago. Ines has now joined her childhood sweetheart on their next adventure together....and their children have taken the last year making peace with the loss of their dynamic parents and keeping the family mementos they want. Needing to empty the home - they invite you to come explore the unique eclectic world of their parents and perhaps find a treasure of your own!
