Tuesday August 12th from 9am-4pm we invite you to
8393 Tampico Court Fair Oaks 95628
to shop from one of the most substantial sales we have had to date. This wonderful dear-hearted man was a local dermatologist and spent much of his life traveling the world; spending plenty of time in Ethiopia and all of Africa helping the natives with his medical knowledge, time and donations. In fact he is helping even in his after-life by gifting all of his medical dermatology library to the clinics there and the estate will be mailing them on when we are through with our part of the liquidation.
Throughout the years he and his wife helped many starving artists around Africa and the globe by consigning projects and buying their pieces and bringing them home for us to sell to you on Tuesday. The family opted to donate some of the rarest pieces to local museums but we still have plenty of very one of a kind woven and carved African masks, carvings, beaded work, walking sticks, paintings and collages. From Mexico we offer very rare pottery, carvings, paintings, rugs and tapestries and textiles. Same goes for South America; linens, clothing, tapestries, rugs and figurines as well as dolls. From India we have a nice selection of textiles, pillows, artwork and pottery.
All in all this has been one of my very favorite places to spend time prepping as I love this man and his motion through life and feel his need to support the locals in each room we decorate with his loves and life’s gathering. He and his wife must has spent not a single moment sad or remorseful for not doing exactly what they knew was the right thing to do. No regrets, lots of giving, and plenty of time to love who you choose…that is my idea of a life well led. Good for them!!!
Oh and I would be remiss if I forgot to mention his doctor’s office furnishings of Victorian comfort, mirrors, clocks, chairs, silver, tables and art. Add to that well over 5,000 books and you have one helluva day to spend shopping at this hillside Fair Oaks house that will also be on the market a week after with Corrine Cook. I’m sure she will have to fight off the buyers with a stick as anyone who wants to buy a house in Fair Oaks would be lucky to live in this wonderland of light and natural beauty out every window and door. I just love being inside of it. You will too I am sure.
We are going to try a couple of new things starting with this estate and see how they work. First and foremost we are going to allow all you collectors, dealers and hoarders who have the hankering to scan a book to just do so. But while I was talking to a friend/Dave at my nephew’s birthday party last night (who volunteers at Friends of The Library fundraisers) he mentioned they allow scanning at their sales as the people there have been good about scanning one book at a time. He said they would never gather a huge stack of books and hoard them away from the other buyers but rather proper etiquette holds them to taking a single book at a time, scanning it then placing it back on the shelf or into their bag/box to purchase. We will give you all the same opportunity unless you spoil that chance. If you see someone who is in the act of grouping hundreds of books to hold for later scanning and not taking a single book at a time to scan and buy, then let one of us know and they will be asked to leave the sale. This is fair for everyone; allowing all the buyers, not just the few dealers, to get what they came for and share in the wealth of knowledge this man surely held in each subject he collected; from cooking and travel to history and botany. I just LOVE this man and his memory!
Did I mention we are being asked to sell some original photographs of Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keefe, Orson Wells, and William Hurt. Add to that the tremendous amount of tools, camping gear, stereo electronics, patio furniture, cycling, clothing, household, and dishware and this home is the ultimate treasure-trove for all you collectors who want to shop through a home with little to no junk and all quality collectibles and useful goods. How often do you come upon a house that just being inside makes you feel like a better person? I know for myself…it is not that often even in this business. But how lucky to come upon a place that warms your soul like this one does. Namaste. |
