Only a small number of people can be allowed into the sale at a time so we appreciate your patience's. It's best to park on the streets and the surrounding area. It's very easy access and no problems for parking at all ! There are camera's and security 24 hours on the property. Please do not bother the family in the house. They have a large dog !!!   Family Bio & History :

Annette Hartman

Annette Bleiberg was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1922. Always bright and loquacious, Annette graduated from Weequahic High School at 15. Interested in social studies, politics, world events and the arts, Annette later took classes at the New School for Social Research in New York. She met her husband, Kenneth Hartman, at a musical fundraiser for the war effort, in the home of her friend, his cousin. They married in 1944, just before he shipped out to Europe. During the war, Annette worked in the chemistry lab at Ballantine beer fixing the alcohol level for 3.2 beer for the troops. She and Ken had a son, Kenneth who, at the ripe old age of 8, decided to be a writer and wanted to move to Los Angeles. In 1953, they did so.

The Hartman family bought a home on the G.I. bill in Encino for $12,000. In 1956. Annette started her San Fernando Valley work life in the office of a small real estate company in Encino, and later became a realtor. The company grew and eventually was bought by Coldwell Banker, establishing itself in the Southern California.

Eager to improve herself, Annette attended Cal. State Northridge, later CSUN, full time and got her degree in Sociology. Always the altruist, she spent a quarter of a century in the Department of Public Social Services as an eligibility supervisor, helping people who had lost jobs due to illness, disability, family care, and largely when the aerospace industry collapsed. She never met a so-called “welfare queen” in her entire career.

Annette’s father, Morris, studied law and became a mediator in the early days of union labor for the Fur Dyers Union. His son-in-law, Ken, worked in fur dying, briefly. Her mother, Sadye, was president of the Deborah charity hospital several times. Founded in New Jersey in 1922, it originally served as a tuberculosis sanatorium. It still exists today. She was an avid antiques collector during the Great Depression when antiques were available for next to nothing.

Kenneth Walter Hartman

Ken Hartman was born in NYC in 1923 to a plumber and steamfitter from Budapest, Hungary, who came to the U.S. just after the turn of the century; and a Hungarian mother who came here around 1900. Kalman Hartman and Rose Gross met and married in the Harlem area of New York’s Lower East Side. Thanks to her resourcefulness, Rose was able to bring her entire family here by World War I. Highly literate, she spoke three languages. Sadly, Kalman’s family perished at the hands of the Nazis.

Ken graduated high school in Irvington, NJ and attended Cooper Union College on a full scholarship in chemical engineering. After serving in the army in Western Europe in WW II, he worked for Celanese plastics, and was involved in the invention of Saran wrap.

That all changed when he, Annette and young Kenny moved to California. Ken started with Reliable Glassware and Equipment Co. in sales and soon became equipment manager. Twenty years on, S. E. Rykoff bought the company, and it became the equipment arm of the restaurant food giant. Ken worked in that industry for 40 years as the liaison between the sales staff and the manufacturers.

Kenneth Jeffrey Hartman

Kenny became a television writer for soap operas Peyton Place and Love is a Many Splendored Thing. He later changed his name to Daniel Gregory Browne. He was the Emmy-winning co-creator of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and was a published playwright. Daniel’s sister, Hilary Hartman Kip, also worked in television in story development for CBS and private production companies, including Martin Sheen’s former company. She has a degree in Theatre from San Francisco State University and worked with a Los Angeles stage company, Theatre of N.O.T.E., for many years. Both of their grandmothers were skilled at crochet and embroidery. Hilary met Bob Kip in college. They have twin sons, Kenneth and Daniel.

This collection is culled from the homes of all of those mentioned here.
