In 1913 when this house was built for the Welch Family, there were only 3 houses, the Presbyterian Church and a cotton field on College Street. A steamboat from Paducah, Kentucky traveled down the Tennessee River with the materials for the Tate brothers to build this home. The fireplace mantel in the formal parlor and dining room, separated by pocket doors, along with the heart of pine flooring, considered the very best, were a part of this shipment. 10 feet ceilings throughout the first floor including the hallway, master bedroom (20x17) with walk-in closet, full bath and door to the wrap around porch, and princess bedroom. The roomy kitchen with pine cabinets is open to a 14X16 sunken hearth/eat-in room.  The Carrolls constructed an enclosed sun room, a pine paneled den, with fireplace and built in bookcases, along with a double car garage with upstairs game room to the back on the house. A beautiful stairway leads upstairs to the 2 bedrooms, full bath and study with built-ins. Concrete patios are found at the back of the house and the front beside the shared driveway. The house was painted a bluff color with maroon trim by Mr. Wyche, a Dutchman. Little has changed through the years as much of the original wood work, doors, trim and even some wallpaper remains.

Dr. J.W. “Jim” and Thelma Carroll bought the house in July of 1950 from The Hinton’s. Well known and loved by all, Mrs. Thelma and their children Jimbo, Creed and Catherine called this home for 66 years! As a testament to the family, the Hardin County Football Stadium is named for and remains The Dr. Jim Carroll Stadium.

It is indeed an honor to offer for sale at Public Auction this historic house along with 150+ antiques from the Carroll house along with 100+ antiques from another super estate. With Stevens Auction, John Dwight Stevens, Aberdeen, Miss. 662-369-2200 TFL#6042, you may visit www.stevens auction.com for pictures, list and terms.

Real Estate Terms; 5% buyer’s premium at live auction and 10% buyer’s premium Internet bidding, applies to real estate.  House sells AS-IS and will be open for your complete inspection beginning Monday September 26, by appointment. Open house dates to be announced.  Homes built prior to 1978 are subjected to have lead based paint. In accordance to federal law, all potential buyers will be allowed 10 days prior to sale to have the home inspected at buyer’s expense.
