Listing Information

It is a great pleasure that we have an opportunity to present magnificent works of art by the great artists Urbain Huchet, Ann Yost Whitesell and Charles Levier. All Art Work was kept in a special environment with a constantly maintained humidity and temperature.

Auction also includes Fine Jewelry, Chane and Dior

Urbain Huchet was born in Rennes, France on April 28, 1930. After studying law and owning a textile factory for four years, he decided in 1960 to devote himself entirely to painting. Mr. Huchet spent his first three years as an artist in Pont-Aven, following in the footsteps of the Post Impressionist, Gauguin, and Symbolist, Emile Bernard, both of whom influenced him a great deal.

In 1963, he moved to Paris. Catching the travel bug, he journeyed throughout Europe and the Middle East, spending time in Indian markets, visiting Peru, Mexico, Egypt, and every beautiful country he could, finding inspiration in each place. He painted the scenery of each locale, culminating in a book to document his experiences.

His works are typified by a fluid and free, gestural approach to both form and color, and they are immediately recognizable. He is adept at both painting on canvas and watercolor and is an accomplished lithographer. His subjects are diverse but are primarily a reflection of the landscape of the Brittany region as he has a profound love for the coast. Urbain Huchet has been an exhibiting artist since 1960. He has had exhibitions in New York, London, New Orleans, Egypt, and Paris.

A Large number of artwork of the Original Oil on Canvas Paintings belong to Ann Yost Whitesell Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1911). She studied art under the late Dr. Walter Emerson Baum and with Melvin Stark of Cedar Crest College. It was with Baum that she developed a most insightful and sharing friendship and was asked to instruct art classes at the Baum School.

On many trips to France during her youth, she had the opportunity to share space and ideas with and was influenced by Edward Redfield. At 75 years of age, she was asked to instruct again.

The paintings of Ann Whitesell come across primarily as a strong American vision of landscape and city life. Her colors are vibrant, her strokes defiantly placed, and her textures extremely rich. Oil landscapes are her primary works. In 1980 she was the recipient of the Art Alliance Foundation award in 1980. In 1954, her paintings received an honorable mention at the Woodmere Art Gallery in Philadelphia. In 1953, Ann Whitesell won first and top prizes at the Hess Brothers art exhibit in Allentown. She received a critic's choice for Portrait of Allentown in 1962 and three critics' choices in Portrait of Education. Since then, her work has won numerous critics' choices and prizes.

She has exhibited in New York, Philadelphia, Boca Raton, Greenwich, and areas in Pennsylvania including Bucks County and Lehigh Valley. Many of her paintings are enhancing private collections in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, and California.
