Bid online now through Wednesday, February 18th at alderferauction.com. This auction will begin closing at 8 PM at a rate of 5 lots per minute. Active bidding will be auto-extended 3 minutes for each lot once it begins to close. American silver dominates with pieces from Gorham, Tiffany, Towle, Reed & Barton, Wallace, and International Silver. Gorham contributes multiple patterns including "Chantilly," "Etruscan," "Plymouth," and "Old English Tipt." Additional American makers include Frank M. Whiting, Alvin, Dominick & Haff, Lunt, and Webster, demonstrating the breadth of American silver production. Many pieces retain retailer markings from J.E. Caldwell and Bailey Banks & Biddle. Highlights include a Tiffany "Strawberry" serving spoon and dresser tray, Watson enameled demitasse spoons with guilloche decoration, and a Gorham Aesthetic swan olive spoon with gold-washed pierced bowl. A nut set by Towle and Mauser and multiple porringers offer collectors specialized serving pieces. Continental silver includes German Hanau repousse snuff boxes and Dutch monkey spoons showcasing distinctive European craftsmanship. Scandinavian design appears through Georg Jensen pieces, alongside additional Danish and Norwegian examples. British pieces span Victorian and Edwardian periods with various decorative techniques. |
